I think the reason Democrats are more worried about this election stuff (you know, the anyone but bush rhetoric) is that they have a lot more to lose. A Bush horror story: Abortion is outlawed. Your daughter dies of a forced birth, because some one wants to feel morally superior. A Kerry Horror Story: Taxes go up by like 1%. You can't afford a new plasma TV.
