White feminists discuss fat [replying to this post where some lady says something stupid] Personally, I think that people are too quick to believe that large percentages of the population just randomly become less 'moral'.We think that black men suddenly just wake up and decide 'hey, let's drop out of high school- because we're lazy gits!" and that between 2007 and now, millions of people have suddenly become too lazy to work, and that people have all just suddenly decided that they want to be really fat.

It's because we're so trained to focus in on people's individual moral character that we end up being ridiculous. We also see everything in the light of moral character. If a child pees the bed, he's 'lazy'[I hear this a lot], if a person is fat, they don't have enough 'willpower', and etc, etc, and we structure our society this way- worrying about the moral hazard of unemployment benefits, etc, instead of structuring it so that people can succeed in their goals.

Some lady addresses fat hatred in feminism. Instead of a useful comment, I'll complain about how as a black woman, I have hips. No matter how much time and energy I spend on worrying about how many calories a bunch of grapes has, which I don't, because worrying about calories in grapes isn't awesome and life needs to have as much awesome stuffed in it as possible, I'm never going to have thin hips, and my thighs will always be a bit pudgy.

And some women...well...even if they spent every waking moment of every day worried about surviving on 900 calories, they wouldn't get down to an 'acceptable' size. So no need to berate the chubby.

I love it when they get meta. [tl;dr* about how fat people are all killing themselves, and how only my internet postings will save them] also [Skinny people are oh so oppressed! Once...somebody called me anorexic!!]

Also, the diet study is explained in science friday. Apparently for 2 months, the subjects had a dietitian to help them out, but for ten other months, the women, all randomly assigned to different diets, had to figure the diets out themselves. Aktins won with 10 pounds lost. This is not enough pounds lost to prevent sizism, I think?
*too long; didn't read.
